CONTEXTUAL STUDIES

This module aims to introduce and to inculcate exploratory and investigative efforts to extend students’ conceptual and perceptual parameters within the study of design. Exploration will involve the analysis of visual and cultural issues, in order to relate these to the students’ own ideas and opinions. They will be encouraged to expand, develop or synthesize ideas by using discovered contextual meaning via investigative and critical study to form visual design statements.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Recognize important contextual thinking strategies in design practices

  2. Analyze design in the context of historical and contemporary design practices

  3. Apply the findings of contextual investigations into visual expressions.

Lead by Mr. Charles Sharma Naidu, Senior Lecturer II, Faculty of Built Environment, Eng., Tech. & Design, the design students will be able to make investigations about contextual meaning and apply them into a tangible design statement based on their preferred design discipline.
