CTX #3: (FINAL) PROPOSAL IDEA

After a few days of reevaluating the idea and coming up with nothing workable, I decided to talk it over with Mr. Charles. The product of that discussion had me thinking of another concept completely, but still sticking with the same programme.

Here are the final ideas that we came up with:

1. Title of the game: THE KEY (A platformer game)

2. Synopsis: In this platformer game made using Stencyl, the player assumes a princess character with one goal: finding the key to escaping the dark forest. The game ties in closely with how we view stress as an overwhelming feeling which makes us feel trapped and unable to escape. The main character in this game, the princess, is me, you, all of us.

3. Statement: Think of the term 'damsel in distress' except the player are the ones saving themselves - giving a whole different twist to that term. Who says that the damsel is waiting for a knight in shining armour to save her? The enemies in this game symbolises her inner demons and the ridicule that she gets as a woman. Though it plays out as a normal platformer game, it has a stark difference in which it features a woman. Normally, platformer games like this focuses more towards male characters, such as Mario.  (Focuses on female characters in games, female empowerment and representation)

4. Objective and Purpose of game: To give the player a completely new point of view of women and how they can do everything a male character does as well - stripping away the stereotype that only male characters are relatable to the male audience. Besides that, even when male gamers choose to play as women characters, it is more often then not that it is out of sheer admiration and dare I say, drooling over the exaggerated character design.* (Source) This game acts as a starting point in which  the player gets to see how there is no difference in how the character looks, and how the gameplay still plays out the same way. The only noticeable difference is that the character is a princess, and well, doesn't have exaggerated features.

5. Use of equipment, techniques, cost and etc: Stencyl, a video game development tool and with the immense external support of Muhammad Akmal from KDU Glenmarie who is currently majoring in Game Development.
