2d #3: MARK MAKING

Marbling and Weaving

When we were given this exercise, I was really blown away with the types of marks the you can make with everyday items. This opened up a whole new world of possibility for me to explore more of.

SPONTANEITY IS THE KEY

MARBLED PAPER, SUGAR PAPER &

CARTRIDGE PAPER

UNIQUE MARKS

The weaved designs which was a combination of marbled paper and sugar paper together was very tedious to do as it requires thought and process. The outcome is very detailed and beautiful though.

As for the mark makings they were quite easy to do in contrast to the weaved designs as it did not require much effort. Other than that, it also had a more spontaneous design rather than a controlled one.

Black Squares

I had to do 80 squares by folding and cutting them in different styles to get different outcomes and designs. For example, we had to use subtraction, addition, reflection, and also tearing methods to get the unique designs.

For me personally, the tearing method was the hardest because I kept accidentally tearing the square. The exercise was the toughest as it required immense amount of concentration and intricacy.

FINAL OUTCOME

Mark making book

I chose to do an accordion style book because I feel like it really encompasses the compilation of mark making that I have done. The smooth flow of the book and the way it is able to show the same amount of marks on both sides is very interesting to me.

Why this style?

I taped a few cut up in a half mounting board together to create the accordion style. After that, I put a little tape on the corners of the book for decorative purposes. Lastly, I pasted the mark makings directly on the pages. It can be open by accordion style or just flip through.

How is it made?
