PG EXERCISE #1: BLACK AND WHITE MINIMALISTIC PHOTOS

MINIMALISTIC

PHOTOS

There's something charming about black and white minimalistic photos. A sense of mystery and melancholy is present. For our first exercise, we were told to do just that: Produce 5 black and white minimalistic photos.

What is minimalism

minimalism

ˈmɪnɪməˌlɪz(ə)m/

A style employed by many 20th Century artists, using a minimum amount of components such as colour, shape, line and texture. Within the art world it is considered an extremely subjective concept, leaving interpretation and meaning up to the viewers perception of the work.

WILTED FLOWERS

These wilted flowers used to be a part of my mother's beautiful bouquet of flowers she got for her birthday last year. I like how the branches are split evenly into three.

AN OLD LANTERN

This old lantern has not been used in years. I love how the lantern's varying structure contrasts perfectly with the concrete wall's texture.

THE RING

Haziq's most prized possession: his ring and camera. What really stands out from this photo, I believe, is how it contrasts perfectly with the dull background. It brings the ring into focus.

RAIN DROPLETS

For this one, I was fond of how the rain droplets fell on my father's old motorcycle. The sounds that it made were very pleasing and the patterns were also quite interesting.

THE DAD CAP

This one in particular was taken prior to the cap gone missing. I felt that the leaves behind the cap really embodies my dad's green thumb.
